Overcoming Evil with Good by Angela J. Willard Besides absolution of sins, another very important empowerment we receive from Yeshua Messiah is the ability to conquer (overcome) the enemy and his attacks. “But thanks to Elohim who gives us the overcoming through our Master יהושע Messiah” 1 Corinthians 15:57 ISR. Last week I was attacked with hurtful words that took me down, but not out. I clung to Elohim and prayed for peace, even through my tears. I prayed for the person who hurt me, and I made the effort to bless them daily, even when I didn’t feel like it. “Father bless so-and-so from their head to their feet. Bless them as they come in and as they go out, may all the work of their hands be blessed...” etc. Every day I prayed for them and blessed them. And I took those hurtful words that were used against me and laid them at my Father’s feet. “Bless those cursing you, and pray for those insulting you” Luqas (Luke) 6:28 ISR. This week, that person apologized and asked me for forgiveness. I had already forgiven them in my heart but it sure felt good to know they were truly sorry. This opened the door for us to talk about what was said and how we can avoid a hurtful situation in the future. Through this, not only was there forgiveness but then came understanding. We learned from one another and understood each other. So now it’s as if last week’s insult and injury never happened. We now have a clean slate, a fresh start. We overcame! “But in all this we are more than overcomers through Him who loved us” Romiyim (Romans) 8:37 ISR. What the enemy tried to do was destroy our relationship. But Yeshua is all about restoration and reconciliation. He has taught us the way of peace. If we follow Him and His examples, we will overcome evil in our lives when we do our part, even when the other party may not ever apologize or seek forgiveness. We will have peace even if they don’t. And in cases such as these we should continue to pray for the person to have peace in their lives as well. Prayer works. It is so important to understand that our enemy is Satan and his many demons. They are evil spirits that work through people, even us if we allow them. People are not the enemy. They are being used as a puppet from the kingdom of darkness whose only desire is to destroy the Kingdom of Light, everyone in it (Elohim’s children) and all that is good. We cannot allow him to work through us! We must pray for one another, instead of attacking one another with evil words, deeds and even thoughts. “The thief does not come except to steal, and to slaughter, and to destroy. I have come that they might possess life, and that they might possess it beyond measure” Yoḥanan (John) 10:10 ISR. “Be sober, watch, because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour” Kĕpha Aleph (1 Peter) 5:8 ISR. If we want to have peace in our lives, we must walk in peace. This means we may need to be the person who steps forward in order to make peace, even when we were the person who has been wronged. Let us walk in the way of Yeshua and speak peace even to those who have hurt us. Let us be peacemakers and not evildoers. Only through this way can we truly overcome evil with good. “Repay no one evil for evil. Respect what is right in the sight of all men. If possible, on your part, be at peace with all men” Romiyim (Romans) 12:17-18 ISR. Willard “For the rest, my brothers, be strong in the Master and in the mightiness of His strength. Put on the complete armour of Elohim, for you to have power to stand against the schemes of the devil. Because we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against authorities, against the world-rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual matters of wickedness in the heavenlies. Because of this, take up the complete armour of Elohim, so that you have power to withstand in the wicked day, and having done all, to stand. Stand, then, having girded your waist with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having fitted your feet with the preparation of the Good News of peace; above all, having taken up the shield of belief with which you shall have power to quench all the burning arrows of the wicked one. Take also the helmet of deliverance, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of Elohim, praying at all times, with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, watching in all perseverance and supplication for all the set-apart ones” Eph`siyim (Ephesians) 6:10-18 (ISR).
We are to be at peace with all people, whenever possible [Romiyim (Romans) 12:18]. When we are walking in the ways of Elohim, He will cause even our enemies to be at peace with us [Mishlĕ (Proverbs) 16:7]. “Blessed are the peacemakers, because they shall be called sons (children) of Elohim” Mattithyahu (Matthew) 5:9. Be at peace, speak peace, walk in peace, child of Elohim.
4. Belief: Eph`siyim (Ephesians) 6:16: “Above all, having taken up the shield of belief with which you shall have power to quench all the burning arrows of the wicked one.” Elohim’s Word is true and your faith in His truths will guard you from the enemy’s lies. Whether you received a word from Him in The Scriptures or other written word or received a prophetic word that resonated with your spirit, you can believe His word! “Ěl is not a man, to lie; nor a son of man, to repent (change His mind)! Has He said, and would He not do it; or spoken, and would not confirm it? [Bemiḏbar (Numbers) 23:19]”. Abraham believed the word of Elohim, even seeing the impossibility in his human flesh, he believed what Elohim said. Elohim saw Abraham’s faith and called it righteousness [Berĕshith (Genesis) 15:6]. Abraham’s faith in Elohim’s word caused Abraham to be in right standing with Him, to come into agreement and alignment with Him. We must partner with Elohim by believing His word, standing on His word and not wavering. Stand strong in your belief! 5. Deliverance: Eph`siyim (Ephesians) 6:17a: “Take also the helmet of deliverance…” As children of Elohim, through our faith in atonement of our sins through Elohim and Yeshua’s sacrifice on our behalf, we are delivered from the schemes of the enemy and no weapon formed against us will prosper—unless we let them! We must allow His truths to cleanse our minds and transform us so we can stand against enemy attack. “’No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall prove wrong. This is the inheritance of the servants of יהוה, and their righteousness from Me,’ declares יהוה” Yeshayah (Isaiah) 54:17. Where the enemy attacks most is in our own minds. Through the Word of Elohim, we have deliverance over those attacks. Yeshua gave us a very good example of this in Mattithyahu (Matthew) 4:1-11. Speak out His truths to destroy Satan’s lies! 6. Word of Elohim: Eph`siyim (Ephesians) 6:17b: “…and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of Elohim.” We must use the word of Elohim against the attacks of the enemy—they are our spiritual sword! We do this not only by believing His words but by declaring them out loud into our atmosphere. When Satan tempted Yeshua in the wilderness, he was defeated by the Word of Elohim every single time! [See Mattithyahu (Matthew) 4:1-11.] As children of Elohim we have authority over the enemy [Luqas (Luke) 10:19.] Use His words to attack Satan’s lies. ‘Is not My Word like a fire?” declares יהוה, “and like a hammer that shatters a rock?’ Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 23:29. Use your spiritual sword! 7. Prayer: Eph`siyim (Ephesians) 6:18: “Praying at all times, with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, watching in all perseverance and supplication for all the set-apart ones.” Prayer is essential and it is simple. Prayer is talking to our Heavenly Father, Elohim, Creator of all things. What He desires most from us is a relationship, not religion. We cannot have a relationship without good communication. We build that relationship through prayer. Just talk to Him honestly and directly, the way you would with a best friend who loves you unconditionally. We must go before Elohim with clean hands and a clean heart because He is HOLY. He cannot even look upon sin. Sin will keep us from having open communication with Him, like a wall between us. “But your crookednesses have separated you from your Elohim. And your sins have hidden His face from you, from hearing” Yeshayah (Isaiah) 59:2. Through confession and repentance of our sins, and belief that our atonement is through Yeshua Messiah, we are able to go boldly to the throne of Elohim with clean hands and a clean heart. We go to Elohim’s throne of grace with our prayers and praise and make our requests known. We thank Him for all we have, no matter how much or little we may have, we honor Him for it all. We ask for our sins to be forgiven, for protection, for wisdom and direction for our lives, for our needs to be met, and we pray for the needs of others. Without the armour of Elohim we will not be able to withstand the attacks of the enemy. Wear your armour, child of Elohim.
